The word robust describes the ability of a system to resist change without adapting its stable configuration. The human body is a very complex system, in a sense, striving to maintain order in an environment that drives it towards disorder. The robust human body resists being brought to disorder.

Health can be defined in a number of ways. We prefer to describe health as being robust. Being so allows you to live your dreams. By living your dream the world benefits. You see, we are all gifted. You have been given a gift that can only be fully expressed with the world if you are robust.

Who is the robust human?

The robust human resists the stressors engaged in his or her immediate environment. Sufficiently so being expressed as someone who isn't taking all the medications one supposedly needs as they age. He or she does not get sick several times a year. An ankle is rolled, a wrist is sprained, but they are back in action within weeks. Gluten-containing, dairy-loaded, oxidized-oil-dense, sugary food is enjoyed on occassion with no effect. One missed night of sleep is not a big deal. They live in the same toxic soup that everyone else does, but do not succumb to endocrine, immune, and neurological issues. They are not constantly rushing around, live in the present moment, and enjoy life! And most importantly, their gift to the world is being realized!

We don’t live in the perfect world. Good thing, because perfect is boring! No doubt, good habits are the foundation for success. But there is no need to deny your humanity and beat yourself up over any transgressions. Instead focus on achieving a state of resilience by identifying what the biggest needle movers are in maintaining the robustness of the system that belongs to you.

Believe it or not, it’s not the same for everyone. For some a change of mindset. For others it is a structural issue. Some may need to focus more on their nutrition. It could be reducing the toxicants they are exposed to in the home environment. Maybe someone has a chronic infection. Maybe sleep. In fact, it could be a combination of all of these things! There are so many variables. And the key is identifying the those requiring the most manipulation in your context.
